Akwir Irene has spent the majority of her life running—from rebel soldiers, family disputes and an unhealthy marriage. Today, she is able to settle safely with her children and to build a peaceful life with the money that she earns at KK Uganda.

DREAMS FOR THE FUTURE

I have already started caring for eight chickens and one goat and I hope that I can continue to work in agriculture so that I can afford to send my children to school.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT NORTHERN UGANDA

The most beautiful thing about Northern Uganda today is the expanding women’s rights. Whereas we were once walked upon and given no rights, today our local leaders are helping us become independent and gain respect.
